Airtel India's fastest 5G speed test trials conducted
- According to sources, telecom operator Bharti Airtel recorded speeds of over 1 gigabit per second using network gear from Finnish firm Nokia during a 5G field trial in Mumbai.
- The company is running a live trial of 5G at Phoenix Mall in Lower Parel, Mumbai.
- A source said, "Airtel is conducting trials in 3500 MHz bands using Nokia's 5G Gear as per DoT guidelines.
- The trials have supplied speeds of over 1 Gbps with ultra-low latency." 1 Gbps is 1,000 Mbps (megabits per second).
- The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) recently allotted a 5G trial spectrum in 3500 MHz, 28 GHz, and 700 MHz to Airtel in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru for India-relevant use on next-generation fast wireless broadband technology cases can be developed.
- Earlier this year, Airtel became the first telecom operator to test 5G on a live network in Hyderabad using liberalized spectrum in the 1800 MHz band. "Airtel and Nokia are planning to start 5G trials in Kolkata soon," the source said. Bharti Airtel has also got permission for a runnable trial in Delhi and Bangalore.
